How does memory work? Who is the "distractor" in your family? What was the "car crash" experiment?
The Psychology Book is your visual guide to the complex and fascinating world of human behavior. Discover how we learn, become emotionally bonded with others, and develop coping mechanisms to deal with adversity, or conform in a group. Get to know key thinkers, from Freud and Jung to Elizabeth Loftus and Melanie Klein, and follow charts and timelines to make sense of it all and see how one theory influenced another.
With concise explanations of different schools of psychology including psychotherapy, cognitive psychology and behaviorism, this is an ideal reference whether you're a student, or a general reader. It's your authoritative guide to over 100 key ideas, theories and conditions, including the collective unconscious, the "selfish" gene, false memory, psychiatric disorders, and autism.
If you're fascinated by the human mind, The Psychology Book is both an invaluable reference and illuminating read.

It’s almost an impossible task to sum up the history of psychology and yet they did an excellent work. I cannot imagine how they managed to structure it but thanks to that I was able to learn a lot of great topics and about great professionals along history. I think this is a great start into the world of psychology. After all, there are a lot of references to continue reading.

This is my kind of book. I am always furthering my education beyond what I am learning at University. Because I am still in college and reading constantly I really appreciate the format of this book. It is organized by the different divisions of psychology from social to child and within are the most significant people, theories, experiments, and concepts in a short story format. This makes it easy to learn a lot of information on limited time. This book is to the point on each subject and filters though unnecessary information and gives you what you need to know right away. I can enjoy learning new things outside my coursework because this book gives information in this short story format. I have taken a couple of courses in psychology but this book does not require the reader to have previous information in psychology in order to appreciate the knowledge the book contains. After this book I bought the religions and philosophy book by this publisher and will buy the business one as well when it comes out. Overall for the learner who is limited on time this (and others by the publisher) are for you. If you want something that is more specific, get something else because this one is an overview of all.

I got this for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day last year (2/14/20) and he loves it. I’ve read it too and it’s very understandable and interesting enough to keep you reading. I’ve read psychology books at college level and this is much more engaging than a textbook if you want an overview of comprehensive basic terminology and concepts.

An excellent reference book for anyone studying 1st year psychology - this book gives succinct information in digestible chunks. I use it as a way to get an overview of a particular theory, psychologist or experiment before doing in-depth study and I think it will work well as a revision tool as well. There's a whole series of these books, if they're all like this one, I'd recommend them for whatever you're studying!

We got our son all the books from this line - Sociology, psychology, economics, history, and philosophy. They are great and easy to follow with lots of graphs and pictures. Our son is a freshman in high school and has no problem following the chapters. Great for reference as well!

Very large books but I LOVE this style. The pictures, the descriptions. I am very visual and have a hard time comprehending when reading but with the added colors and pizzazz to the pages it keeps me entertained and wanting to learn more.

I have an above average IQ and I've always been interested in psychology (I have studied a good bit of it.), but some of the areas in the book are difficult to follow. Not most of them, but a few topics I had to read multiple times and I still didn't understand what point they were trying to make.
I was stuck between 3 and 4 stars because I'm disappointed in the book as a whole... But I'm still glad I bought it. Most the ideas here are very interesting. But they are more of a starting point than simple explanation of the whole idea. Some of them are so specific I think it would be hard to follow up with Google to learn more about the topic. That being said I have learned concepts that I didn't know existed. It definitely covers a lot (not all) areas of psychology.
