Two sisters raised in fear are about to find out why in a chilling novel of psychological suspense from the author of The Thinnest Air.
Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return.
As months pass, hope vanishes. Supplies are low. Livestock are dying. A brutal winter is bearing down. Then comes the stranger. He claims to be looking for the girls’ mother, and he’s not leaving without them.
To escape, Wren and her sister must break the rule they’ve grown up with: never go beyond the forest.
Past the thicket of dread, they come upon a house on the other side of the pines. This is where Wren and Sage must confront something more chilling than the unknowable. They’ll discover what’s been hidden from them, what they’re running from, and the secrets that have left them in the dark their entire lives.

This is a wonderful story brilliantly told. Such sweetness and caring! The main characters were lovely and I could never believe that Brant didn't love Nicolette. This was a life changing time for everyone. I love the way the author wrote each chapter for a different character. That technique made the plot more interesting. Loved reading this in one afternoon (couldn't put it down!). I would recommend this book to all!

The alternate chapter’s narrators, Wren and Nicolette, have very different lives..... centuries apart, but not..... Both main characters deal with interesting conflict without much self-pity, internal drama. At some point the two separate, yet equally engaging plots, make sense and I was left pleased with this writer’s craft. I highly recommend this book if you like mystery, puzzle solving, seeing people’s motivation to do unusual things, without a lot of graphic scenes. I know this sounds vague, but I don’t want to give anything away because plot twists were a highlight!

This book was amazing and makes me want to buy all the rest of Minka Kent's books! This book was such a quick and enjoyable read. I couldn't put it down. The story was so well written and I love that it was told between two perspectives Wren and Nicolette. Kent did an excellent job and telling the story between the two characters. At first I was kinda confused as to what Nicolette's character had to do with this story but then it finally played out halfway through to why she was in the book. I love a good suspense thriller and this one was perfect for that.
Cant wait to read more by Minka in the future! She will definitely be an auto-buy for me.

BOOK 8 of 2020: THE STILLWATER GIRLS by Minka Kent
Yes, my 4th book by @minkakentauthor this year and I have two more to go. Her books grab my attention right away and keep me reading. This one is short, just 249 pages, so I read it in a day but I enjoyed it so much.
Two young girls are left in a cabin , off the grid, when their mother takes the youngest sister for medical help. But she hasn’t been back for two months and the girls will not survive out in the woods alone, freezing and with little food left. They’ve been raised to know nothing of modern day things like electricity or phones. Then a man comes to the cabin threatening to take them so they escape.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the woods in Upstate NY, a woman is suspecting her husband of cheating on her. The book tells how the girls intersect with this woman and secrets are revealed. It’s a fast, fun read and still emotional with very likeable characters. So far every book by @minkakentauthor has been 5 stars for me!
Captivating
Great twists and turns that kept my attention and wanting to keep reading to find the solution to the mystery. As it speaks through two narrator's telling the story it held my attention. Very much worth the easy read.

The concept that a person can live in a cabin with 3 girls and keep them ignorant of life outside the forest was extremely interesting. The girls believed their mother and did what she said. At first going back and forth chapters between the two women was hard to understand at first, I couldn't see how they would be connected until the realization they were in the same forest. A very satisfying book.

READ THIS BOOK. It is a story that takes you to the edge. Two sisters have been kept from the outside world their entire lives. Mama forbids Wren & Sage from contact with anyone; they live in squalor; a cabin without plumbing or water, and food is scarce - only what is grown & livestock they tend. Their clothes are threadbare and they are malnourished.
Wren & Sage also have a little sister, Evie, but don't understand how she got there or where she came from. One day she was just there.
Then Evie becomes very ill & mama leaves the girls to get medical help for Evie. Months go by & they never return Why did mama leave them to die?
.
Then a male visitor shows up .. They don't know him but he seems to know mama. And he has his own plans for the girls.
Forced to face their fears of the unknown, they escape into the wilderness of Stillwater forest. From there, Wren & Sage discover that life outside the forest is nothing like mama said.
Follow Wren & Sage into new lives that intersect with wonderful people, all willing to help. Even the police are trying to find mama & Evie. But there are secrets and more questions; nothing is clear. Did mama lie to them about their lives? Why would she leave them to die? Who can be trusted in their new world?
Fabulous book that I highly recommend. Your imagination is always ignited by some new fact.... and secrets emerge that plant more seeds of doubt and deception.
Enjoy!!
